Hawaii Island police are investigating reports of shots fired late Sunday in Hilo.

At 10:08 p.m. Sunday, South Hilo Patrol officers responded to the upper Waiākea area of Hilo, where several residents said they heard multiple gunshots in the vicinity of Haihai and Nou streets. One car was damaged in the incident, police said.

Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section are investigating the shooting as a first-degree reckless endangering case.
